Egypt’s labor market is undergoing rapid transformation, creating an increasing demand for skilled workers who can meet modern industry requirements. However, the current Vocational Education and Training (VET) system faces significant challenges, including outdated curricula, limited alignment with labor market needs, and insufficient collaboration between educational institutions and industry stakeholders.

As a result, many graduates lack the practical and technical skills required for employment, contributing to high levels of youth unemployment and underemployment. Despite ongoing efforts to reform the education sector, gaps remain in ensuring quality, competency-based training that responds effectively to market demands.

In this context, the AlignVET project was initiated to bridge the gap between education and employment by promoting a quality-driven, labor market-oriented VET system in Egypt.

This objective focuses on institutionalizing systematic collaboration between VET providers and employers to ensure industry needs continuously inform curriculum development and governance.

The project aims to update or develop at least 15 demand-driven VET modules by translating identified occupational tasks into specific technical and transversal competencies.

AlignVET introduces a custom online self-assessment tool that allows VET providers to continuously monitor program relevance, graduate employment outcomes, and the application of skills in the workplace.

The EQF is an 8-level, learning outcomes-based framework for all types of qualifications that serves as a translation tool between different national qualifications frameworks. This framework helps improve transparency, comparability and portability of people’s qualifications and makes it possible to compare qualifications from different countries and institutions.

The EQF covers all types and all levels of qualifications and the use of learning outcomes makes it clear what a person knows, understands and is able to do. The level increases according to the level of proficiency, level 1 is the lowest and 8 the highest level. Most importantly the EQF is closely linked to national qualifications frameworks, this way it can provide a comprehensive map of all types and levels of qualifications in Europe, which are increasingly accessible through qualification databases.

AlignVET follows the principles of EQAVET (European Quality Assurance in Vocational Education and Training), a European framework that supports continuous improvement in vocational education systems and institutions.
